Benefits of CAPM Credential

For those entering into project management or existing managers wanting to take extensive responsibility, CAPM certification is ideal for distinguishing you among the market crowd. Similar to PMP Practitioners, you will be learning from the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) Guide.

CAPM certification will justify the following:

  • Dedication to project management and personal ability enhancement.
  • Understanding global basic project management concepts such as knowledge, processes, and terminology.
  • Potential to work on/with project teams.

The CAPM credential is highly valuable if you work in a project team, though you don't lead and direct any. It applies to shareholders, committee members, sponsors, and others involved in the project.

As PMP is the golden standard certification, CAPM is also highly considered. Fortune 1000 organizations recommend PMP, and so do CAPM credentials.

CAPM Vs PMP – Requirements, Examination & Renewal

One of the drastic differences between CAPM and PMP is that:

  • CAPM certification requirement - 23 hours of project management education
  • PMP certification requirement - a minimum project management education of 35 hours and thousands of leading and directing project experience hours.

The prerequisites make CAPM an ideal credential for non- and entry-level project managers working in project teams.

What makes PMP certification a golden standard is its stringent requirements, exam, and maintenance in recognizing the most dedicated and talented project managers.

CAPM Credential Exam

The credential consists of 150 MCQ-type questions, out of which 15 are pre-test ones. These 15 questions will not impact your scores; however, they will effectively test future exam question validations.

As the question placements are random, candidates can't identify the pre-test questions. The duration of the exam is 3 hours (180 minutes). Surprisingly, most participants who do well in the mock test use less than the provided time.

If you take the CAPM credential test online, you cannot leave your desk. If you did, you would be terminated from the exam. However, if you take the test through the exam center, you are allowed to take a break, but note that the clock will continue to tick during your break time.

With PMBOK Guide, Ed 7 is available; however, there is no mention of exam format change by pmi.org. According to PMI, the exam will depend on the PMBOK Guide Ed 6, and if there are any changes to CAPM exam 2022, it will give a notice of 6 months before the exam changes.

What IF I Fail CAPM Exam?

You will have a total of 3 attempts available within your one-year eligibility period. However, remember that you have to strive hard within that year. A failure to meet the demand means you will have to re-apply for the CAPM exam after a one-year suspension.

To prepare yourself for the CAPM credential test, you must use online training materials to test and validate your knowledge of the concepts. The training sessions allow the candidates to track and monitor the progress and identify their core weaknesses. It also ensures that you study the PMBOK Guide deeper.

What is the Passing Mark of CAPM Exam?

CAPM credential uses a hybrid of difficulty-based scoring and psychometrics to mark scoring. However, PMI does not release the average score required to pass the test.

As the questions are scored based on their difficulty level, and like said, there are 15 pre-test questions. Therefore, it is crucial that you get the difficult ones right because your correct question % won't affect whether you passed or failed.

Who Should Apply for CAPM?

The CAPM certification recognizes individuals interested in project management, even if you are a beginner in this field or a project team member wishing to demonstrate your knowledge and skill.

The credential determines aspirants who have taken project management as their core domain and those who wish to prove themselves. Best CAPM Career Opportunities
