PMP Certification: Course Details & Exam Costs

Project Management Professional (PMP) accreditation is provided by the Project Management Institute (PMI) to individuals who satisfy particular education and experience prerequisites.

There are many criteria that professionals must fulfill before certification application. Once the application is accepted and approved, the candidates must succeed in the comprehensive test to become a Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM).

Though this type of accreditation isn't compulsory for most jobs and organizational roles, it's a widely renowned credential that enhances credibility and adds value to one's resume.

It was designed to develop a standard of project management bridging different sectors. Acquiring a PMP designation is one of many ways a professional can prove their potential and commitment to their profession to a current employer.

Professionals who have completed the application and credential exam procedure are expected to know the usual challenges, concepts, and vocabulary of project management.

Several project management skills transfer seamlessly between sectors so that PMP-certified professionals can be prepared for various outcomes.

PMP Certification Criteria

PMP Exam Eligibility

Achieving your PMP credential is a responsibility, and that's why it's fruitful. However, for PMP enthusiasts to appear for the credential test, they must satisfy some of the stringent requirements set by PMI, which are:

  • Education: A secondary degree (high school diploma, associate's degree or global equivalent)
  • Leading project experience: 60 months
  • Project management training: 35 hours or CAPM certification

OR

  • Education: A four-year degree
  • Leading project experience: 36 months
  • Project management training: 35 hours or CAPM certification

PMP Admission Procedure

Once you have reviewed and made sure that you satisfied the eligibility prerequisite, filling out the application for a PMP credential is the next step. The form is available on the official PMI website online and in PDF format to make a print.

The application review takes 5 to 10 days. After the application is processed online and determined to be completed, you will be contacted by PMI for payment.

You can take the PMP exam online or paper-based, making payments accordingly. Once the payment invoice has been issued, the application is eligible for the audit process.

The application audit is a random process. PMI chooses a few out of several applications, and if you're lucky, you're free from the audit procedure. However, PMI will alert you via mail if your application goes for audit.

PMP Certification Cost

Being a PMI member is not a criterion for the PMP credential test. If you didn't pass on the first attempt, you're allowed to take two more tries in one year.

Remember, each re-examination costs you an extra payment.
