How Do I Schedule PMP Exam?
Are you not satisfied with your current job role and career growth?
Are you looking for a better option to advance your personal and professional growth?
If yes, you must appear for the golden standard certification the 'Project Management Professional (PMP)' as it increases the chance of getting promoted within the organization. Moreover, with this designation, the probability of you getting hired by ace companies is highest.
Several project management accreditations include PMI-ACP, PgMP, PMI-SP, PMI-RMP, and more. However, you need PMP certification if these certification prerequisites are not met. Hence PMP is a stepping stone to the project management field, and your career pursuing your dream doesn't stop with this accreditation alone.
This blog will discuss how to schedule a PMP examination, as it's a must-to-understand topic while you're striving to get PMP certified.
What is PMP Credential Exam?
Professional who wishes to achieve their project management accreditation undertake the PMP credential exam. The certification offered by Project Management Institute (PMI) equips individuals with the skills and knowledge to lead massive projects.
To get certified in PMP, professionals must clear the credential exam by the PMI. By the way, the exam can now be taken from the comfort of your home or your office.
The PMP exam consists of 180 questions, out of which 5 are pre-test questions. The time to complete the exam is 230 minutes (approx 4 hours).
Now, let's look at the types of PMP exam questions.
The exam consists of combination types of:
- MCQs
- Hotspot
- Limited fill-in-the-blanks
- Multiple responses
- Matching
NOTE:
|
The PMP credential test plays a crucial role as it reviews the project management practices of the candidate accurately. Moreover, this exam objectively evaluates and estimates your knowledge in project management.
PMP qualified proficient writer and reviewed whole exam questions. In addition, these questions are mapped with the PMP Exam Content Outline (ECO) to ensure that an appropriate number of questions are set in the credential test.
What's the Passing Percent of the PMP Exam?
PMI published 61% as the passing score during earlier times, i.e., 106 or more out of 175 questions must be correct. Besides, the institute hasn't announced the official score an aspirant need to score for passing the credential exam.
Recently, PMI has taken a more scientific method – a proficiency grading system:
- Proficient
- Moderate Proficient
- Below Proficient
If a candidate has got below proficiency in the exam, you have failed the test.
In addition, it determines the score via sound psychometric analysis, where your test is evaluated based on question difficulty.
PMP aspirants and qualifiers know that the exam questions are randomly placed, and we, as attendees, can't find which one is scored and which is a pre-test. Similarly, you can't also find which question is complex and which one is easy.
Suppose you have answered all the easy questions right but messed up a few difficult ones by answering them wrong; you're most likely to fail the exam.
Hence, we as training providers often advise the candidates to focus and go through each question correctly and attend to all the questions with equal weightage.
Exam Pre-scheduling Process
According to a famous myth, several PMP enthusiasts have thought that the PMP credential test is pre-scheduled, i.e., it happens only on a specific date, time, and schedule. Therefore, the candidate must consider these points and schedule the exam accordingly.
However, this concept isn't genuine. One must need to follow several steps before appearing for the PMP exam. First and the most significant - fulfilling the eligibility prerequisites of PMP.
Therefore, we recommend that you fully understand the eligibility requirement before preparing or scheduling the test.
Once satisfying the criteria, the next step is to fill out the application form. This can be done in 3 ways – Online (through the official PMI website), Paper, and Training providers.
After submitting the application and getting approved by PMI, you will have an eligibility period of one year. During this time, you can schedule the PMP credential test. Failure to do so, you have to re-apply for the application again.
You are familiar with the number of attempts for the PMP exam. Failing after 3rd attempt will result in a suspension period of one year. After that, you have to wait until re-applying with a new application.
