Initiation: The project initiation phase is the first stage of the project management life cycle. You will formally introduce your project to your stakeholders or sponsors during this phase. You will also begin discussing the project's scope with them.

Planning: The project manager will begin by describing the project’s scope, then organize other steps such as building a work breakdown structure and allocating resources.

Execution: After planning the project, a project manager allocates tasks to resources and works according to the plan.       

Monitoring and Controlling: Maintaining oversight during this phase of an operation is essential as managers ensure the plan is appropriately implemented. In addition, they have to make sure any potential conflicts, risks, or changes are dealt with promptly.

Closing: Project closure is the last stage in the project cycle. All the project documentation is finalized, and any legal procedures are completed before the project is closed.

The PMP credential covers three domains: knowledge of the project lifecycle, knowledge of the tools and techniques used to manage a project, and knowledge of how to apply those tools and techniques.

 However, PMI has announced that the credential will be based on PMBOK Edition 6, not on Edition 7 as had been initially planned. Therefore, the new domain of the PMP exam are:

People: The People domain has 14 tasks related to managing conflicts, leading a team, empowering team members to engage in virtual teams, and mentoring relevant stakeholders.

Process: The Process domain of project management involves 17 tasks, including closing projects on time, transmitting information to the right people, and determining how to best execute a project.

Business Environment: The Business Environment domain includes four tasks that evaluate project benefits, address external changes to support organizational change, etc.

Taking the latest version of the PMP exam can be a challenge. Candidates must have basic knowledge of Agile and traditional project management concepts and technical features, frameworks, and guidelines.

People and Business Environment domains have been updated, so candidates need to study and review these areas.

Several enterprises require Agile methodologies, so candidates need to know how to use them effectively. Despite the changes, it is possible to succeed in the exam by preparing early—and using quality training materials.
