What's New in the PMP Examination?

1. What is Changing in the PMP Exam from JANUARY 2, 2021?

In a dynamic and agile work environment Project Management professionals need more diverse skills and approaches than ever before to succeed. In tune with the times, the PMP Certification too is evolving like the profession.

The New PMP Exam will focus on the following Three New Domains:

1. People – emphasizing the skills and activities associated with effectively leading a project team

2. Process – reinforcing the technical aspects of managing a project

3. Business Environment – highlighting the connection between projects and organization strategy

Today’s project management practitioners work in a variety of project environments and utilize different project approaches.
The PMP certification will be reflective of this and will incorporate approaches across the value delivery spectrum. 

• 50% of the Exam will represent Predictive Project Management approaches
• Balance 50% of the Exam will represent Agile or Hybrid approaches. 

Content that spans the value spectrum, including Predictive, Agile and Hybrid approaches, will be included across the three exam domains. 

Predictive, Agile, and Hybrid approaches will be found throughout the three-domain areas of People, Process, and Business Environment. 
The three new domains are aligned to real-life practices.

The number of domains will be reduced from five in the existing PMP Exam to three in the new version of the PMP Exam. 

Existing (Current version) of the PMP Exam Content Outline: 5 Domains
Valid up to December 31, 2020.

1. Initiating: 13%
2. Planning: 24%
3. Executing: 31% 
4. Monitoring and Controlling: 25%
5. Closing: 7%

New PMP Exam Content Outline: 3 Domains aligned to real-life practices.
From January 2, 2021 onwards.

1. People: 42%
2. Process: 50%
3. Business Environment: 8%

2. PMP Exam Change: 50% Predictive Approach and 50% Agile / Hybrid Approach across all Three Exam Domains

The New PMP Exam will have more approaches to delivering outcomes. The New PMP Exam will cover both Predictive Project Management (~50%) and Agile Project Management / Hybrid Project Management approaches across all Three Domains.
